A further extension into the fresh young red space from our Joven starting point, Pimpernel takes us where angels fear to tread. Suzi especially wanted to explore a whole bunch fermented reductive style and Trousseau is the perfect vehicle. Just a minimal SO2 add and bottled en casa this is natural wine in anyone’s language. Previously we have used the old vine Trousseau/Bastardo in our Joven blend and I have seen it as dark fruits, Mulberry, Blackberry but in this wine it seems to me more red fruited and rhubarby, nice herbal from the whole bunch and fitting the brief of juicy, smashable, complex and interesting.

Tasting Notes
The aromas at first are all about pears from ripe pears to sweet dried pears to spiced pear cake. Fragrant bath salts are hooking up with aromatic brown lime cordial and lemon sherbet. Firstly on the palate there are layers of delicious pears embraced in a round and creamy textural mouthfeel. Sweet citrus notes appear with the slightly steely flavour of tinned apricots and pineapple. There is a clean and bright citrus finish that lingers on and on.
Vineyard Notes
The 2019 Cloudy but Fine Chardonnay is made with high quality A graded fruit from a low yielding vineyard in the Adelaide Hills GI.
Production Notes
Charlie stopped the winemaking process of stabilising the wine because it tasted so awesome he didn’t want the wines gorgeous notes to be lost. This is why the wine looks cloudy. Cloudy but Fine.

Shiny Wines Riesling 2019

The 2019 growing season was a scorcher of a year. The year started with a cool
spring and then summer ramping up to some of the warmest months
on record. Due to all this warm weather vintage began early. The Riesling
grapes are sourced from a Loira vineyard situated in the Tamar Valley,
Tasmania.

This wine was harvested on April 1st, 2019. The grapes were hand
harvested and gently processed in the winery. They were
destemmed into fermenters and left on skins for 1 day. The grapes
were then gently basket pressed and moved to stainless steel tanks
for fermentation. The wine was matured for 4 months in stainless
steel. Minimal fining and filtration were utilised.
No animal products were used in the production of this wine.
The nose on the wine bursts with fresh lemon and granny smith apple.
As the bouquet of the wine starts to open, one can find bits of
talc and oyster shell with a beautiful finish of white floral afternotes.
On the palette there is blood orange and pink grapefruit.
The wine finishes with a hint of honey, and a fresh bright
mineral like acidity.

Viticulture

The 2020 growing season was an exciting year that brought many challenges
but was ultimately very rewarding. The season started with a cooler spring
along with a cool summer. The decrease in temperature allowed the vines to
ripen slowly and prolonged the harvest period. This permitted the grapes to
retain acidity and has led to increased flavour and aromatics.
The Pinot Gris is sourced from the Glengarry vineyard situated in
the Tamar Valley, Tasmania.

WINEMAKING

Harvested in April of 2020, the grapes were hand
harvested and gently processed in the winery they were
